Welcome to Year 10
Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) at Idsall

We provide one hour each week for PSHE. These lessons allow students time and space to think, talk and form opinions about many of the issues which are important to us all.

These are issues which will help young people mature into confident, healthy and responsible adults. They encourage positive values, stable relationships and healthy lifestyles. They develop an awareness of local, national and global issues and responsible citizenship.

Students are introduced to the world of work and the career opportunities available for them.

During Year 10 students are taught in 'mixed' ability sets linked to their subject options. They remain in the same group for the two years of Key Stage 4. The lessons are led by a small team of teachers but outside speakers are invited in as often as possible to talk about specialist issues.

The topics covered during Year 10 PSHE lessons include:

  • Careers Education:
    - Preparation for work experience
    - Interview techniques
    - Health and safety issues
  • Work Related Learning - Enterprise in Action
  • Citizenship - The Criminal Justice System 'I-Spy' Politics

  • Health Education - Mental illness:
    - Coping with stress
    - Anorexia/Bulimia
    - Self harm
  • Sex and Relationship Education:
    - Sexually transmitted infections
    - Contraception
