Gifted & Talented Workshops 2018
The PE department are very proud of the Idsall pupils that represent their District, County, Region and Country in their chosen sport outside of school. Your son / daughter has been identified on the PE Gifted and Talented register and we would like to offer some exciting opportunities for them next term.
Firstly, on Wednesday 25th April, we are very excited to offer a workshop for our Gifted and Talented PE pupils with the England Women’s Rugby Player, Lydia Thompson. Lydia was nominated for World Rugby’s Player of the Year award 2017 and has represented England in last year’s World Cup and Six Nation’s campaigns, scoring 12 tries in 10 matches! The session will take place in the main hall from 3:00pm – 4:14pm and the focus will be training, nutrition and the elite pathway to playing international sport. This is a tremendous opportunity for our own athletes from all sports, to meet an elite sportswomen and gain an insight into what it is like to play for England!
Secondly, we have arranged some specialist training sessions where pupils will have the opportunity to be instructed in TRX - Total Resistance Exercise. This refers to a form of suspension training which uses body weight exercises to develop strength, balance, flexibility and core stability. This session will be followed by a ‘My Ride’ spin class which is a virtual cycling class where pupils will pedal past projections as the instructor leads them in an intense workout. The aim of these sessions is to provide our G&T pupils with the opportunity to develop their fitness in activities they may not have had access to before.
The sessions will be held at Wombourne Leisure Centre. Pupils will leave school at 3pm and return at 5:30pm on the following dates:
Year 7 and 8 pupils – Weds 18th April
Year 9, 10 and 11 – Weds 2nd May
All Gifted and Talented pupils should have received a letter about the workshops but please see Mrs Askin in the PE office for further details.
